Because I just know that y’all have been waiting for this: A Visit from the Goon Squad is the best book I’ve read since I read Oscar Wao a few years ago. It’s modern yet I can see it being timeless and accessible forever. Also, it has some of the most ingeniously written portions I’ve ever read/seen (that’ll make sense if you read it). (And yes I absolutely did just become a literary critic because I read a good book~)

Maybe this is the inexperience in me talking, but my answer is no. At least, not permanently. I miss this city whenever I’m away from it, no matter how briefly. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to be somewhere else for school/to travel, but in the long run this is home, you know?

Jennifer Egan’s A Visit from the Goon Squad is giving me that crazy ridiculous crawl-out-of-my-body kind of adrenaline rush that I’ve only ever gotten from a handful of really fucking special books before. I’m too tired to keep reading now but it’s driving me wild to the point that I’m looking forward to picking it up when I open my eyes in the morning. Right now I’m mostly just frustrated at myself for not being able to do it justice in explaining how exhilaratingly good it’s been so far. Fuck.

The twang of the guitar in Duane Eddy’s Rebel Rouser takes us down to the Deep South in a time it brimmed with racial segregation and discrimination, while Jefferson Airplane’s Volunteers successfully strums up the vehement feelings of the late 60’s. Even though it is a diverse selection of music from a very eventful time in American, and world, history, the soundtrack of Forrest Gump somehow comes together perfectly, and, without feeling like a jumbled oldies station, further cements the brilliance of the movie.}

This is my favorite Forrest Gump post of all time. I especially love the use of “Everybody’s Talkin’” because it’s a direct nod to Midnight Cowboy, one of my other all-time favorite movies. I also always lose my shit when I hear “All Along the Watchtower” in the scene when the troops walk through a rice field in Vietnam. Such a brilliant soundtrack.
